Detroit Pistons History
The Detroit Pistons are one of the most storied franchises in the National Basketball Association, and BroadRippleTickets.com is a great place to get all your Detroit Pistons Tickets. Dating back to the early 1980's the Pistons have made the playoffs in 21 of their past 28 seasons, and have captured three NBA Championships, winning back-to-back titles in 1989 and 1990, and then again in 2004. They have made the NBA Finals on two other occasions, and have made the Eastern Conference four other times. During that span they've seen iconic players like Isaiah Thomas, Bill Laimbeer, Joe Dumars, Dennis Rodman, Chauncey Billups, Richard Hamilton, Rasheed Wallace and Ben Wallace don the blue, red, and white of the Detroit Pistons uniforms.
The Pistons have been a member of the NBA since the 1948, and they play their games at The Palace of Auburn Hills, located just north of Detroit in Auburn Hills, Michigan. The Palace, as it's known to most fans, was opened in 1988, the year the Pistons won their first NBA championship. It is a multi-purpose arena that holds over 22,000 fans for basketball games. In addition to hosting 41 Detroit Pistons basketball games a year, The Palace of Auburn Hills also hosts a variety of different Events and Concerts throughout the year, including everything from Bob Seeger and The Silver Bullet Band, to MMA Cage Fights!
The Pistons are currently owned by Tom Gores, who purchased the team in the spring of 2011, and the general manager is former Piston Joe Dumars. Dumars is a member of the Pro Basketball Hall of Fame, and is responsible for constructing the dominant teams Detroit sported in the 2000's.
Lawrence Frank
Lawrence Frank was officially introduced as the new head coach of the Detroit Pistons in the offseason, and fans in Detroit are ecstatic to have a proven coach put in charge of the team. The Pistons were sorely lacking in the leadership department last season, and Frank will bring a tough, disciplined approach to the team. He was the head coach of the New Jersey Nets from 2004-2009, finishing his tenure with a record of 466-225. After leaving New Jersey, Frank joined the Boston Celtics staff as an assistant coach, and helped the team reach the NBA Finals.
Although he never played organized basketball past the eighth grade, Frank worked as a student manager under Bobby Knight while a student at Indiana University, and then spent many years in the NBA as working his way through the coaching heirarchy. Because of his lengthy, and proven track record, Frank has established the respect of the players despite never having played competitively.
If and when the NBA Lockout ends, Piston fans will be piling back into The Palace of Auburn Hills to see what kind of magic Frank can work on a young, and inexperienced team. Make sure you have a seat to the action — purchase Detroit Pistons Tickets from BroadRippleTickets.com today!
