Baltimore Orioles Baseball Tickets

Looked at in its entirety, the Baltimore Orioles had yet another disappointing season in the 2010. Finishing with 66 wins and 96 losses, the Orioles came in dead last in the AL East for the third straight season. It wasn't all bad, though, as the team went 34-23 after new manager Buck Showalter took over in August.

To bolster their chances of contending for a playoff spot, the Orioles added sluggers Mark Reynolds, Derrek Lee and Vladimir Guerrero to their lineup in the offseason, and also signed J.J. Hardy and several bullpen pieces. With the expected continued development of Matt Wieters, Adam Jones, and Nick Markakis, along with young pitchers like Brian Matusz and Chris Tillman, it's no wonder many around baseball are predicting the Orioles first winning season in 13 years.

American League East

The American League East is far and away the toughest division in Major League Baseball. Since 2000, a member of the AL East has represented the American League in the World Series seven times, winning four titles. Last season, four of the five teams in the division won at least 85 games, with the Tampa Bay Rays coming out on top, and the New York Yankees capturing the Wild Card.

Heading into the 2011 MLB season, the Boston Red Sox are considered the heavy favorite to win the AL East. Not only are Dustin Pedroia, Kevin Youkilis, and Jacoby Ellsbury back and healthy, but the team added All-Stars Adrian Gonzalez and Carl Crawford in the offseason, giving them one the most stocked lineups in recent history. They'll need Josh Beckett and John Lackey to return to form to fully realize their potential, but either way, you can bet fans will pack Fenway Park on a nightly basis to see the revamped Red Sox. Flying slightly under the radar are the New York Yankees. They didn't make any flashy moves in the offseason, but a rejuvenated Alex Rodriguez, along with superstars like Mark Teixeira and Robinson Cano, give the Yankees the most potent offense in the league, aside from the Red Sox, of course. The pitching staff remains a question, so don't be surprised if they look to make a deal to acquire another ace to accompany CC Sabathia.

The Tampa Bay Rays, who play their home games at Tropicana Field, don't have near the resources as the Yankees and Red Sox, but they've been just as good, if not better, over the past three years. Unfortunately, they lost Carl Crawford to Boston, Rafael Soriano to New York, and Matt Garza and Carlos Pena to the Chicago Cubs in the offseason, and failed to add any immediate help. There's still enough talent for Tampa Bay to repeat as AL East division champs, but they're definitely not considered the favorite.

The two remaining teams in the American League East are the Toronto Blue Jays and Baltimore Orioles. The Blue Jays spent 2010 clobbering home runs at their home stadium, the Rogers Centre, and ended up winning a very respectable 85 games. Expect more of the same in 2011, though they'll need markedly better pitching to legitimately compete for a playoff spot. The Baltimore Orioles have one of the best stadiums in the league in Camden Yards, and now they finally have an offense that Baltimore fans can be excited about. The team added sluggers like Mark Reynolds, Vladimir Guerreo, Derrick Lee, and J.J. Hardy in the offseason, giving them a very competitive lineup. The pitching staff is still very young and inexperienced, though, so anything out of a last place finish in the division has to be considered a successful season.

2011 American League

The 2011 Major League Baseball Season is underway, and as expected, the division races in the American League are proving to be incredibly tight and competitive. Generally regarded as the best division in MLB, the AL East is currently led by the New York Yankees, with the feisty Tampa Bay Rays in second. The biggest surprise is the Boston Red Sox, who got off to a 2-10 start, and are still fighting to get back to .500. Both the Toronto Blue Jays and Baltimore Orioles have been tougher than expected, proving that the AL East is indeed the best in baseball.

The AL Central is typically a wide-open division, and 2011 is no different. The Minnesota Twins have made the playoffs two consecutive years, but are in dead last this season, as the upstart Cleveland Indians find themselves in first place by nearly five games. Just as surprising have been the Kansas City Royals, who sit in second place in the division, while the Detroit Tigers and Chicago White Sox remain in contention. Out west, the Los Angeles Angels have been powered by an elite pitching staff, and have surprised people by jumping into first place in the AL West division. Last year's American League pennant winner the Texas Rangers have been excellent again this season, and look like a true contender for a World Series title. Rounding out the division are the Oakland Athletics and Seattle Mariners, both teams who have been better than originally expected.

After dominating through the early part of the decade, the American League has fallen in the World Series to the National League in three of the past five seasons. Most pundits agree the result will be different in 2011, as the American League is chock-full of talented teams.

The Boston Red Sox made a big splash in free agency, adding two All-Star players to complement their already outstanding roster. With several key players returning from injury-plagued seasons in 2010, the Fenway Park faithful are as confident in their team as they've ever been. In a stunning move, the New York Yankees failed to add a high-priced piece to their squad over the winter, but there's enough talent on the roster, particularly on offense, to consider them one of the top three teams in the American League. And don't forget about the Tampa Bay Rays, last year's winner of the vaunted AL East. The Minnesota Twins are the cream of the crop in the AL Central division, and with a fully healthy roster, are again in position to contend for a World Series title. The 2010 American League representative in the World Series was the Texas Rangers, and after adding a pair of sluggers in the offseason, they're poised to again be the best offense in MLB, especially considering they play in the extremely hitter-friendly Rangers Ballpark at Arlington.

With such a wide-open race, the American League is sure to provide plenty of excitement and hard-fought Major League Baseball in 2011.

May 2011 - American League Update

The Major League Baseball 2011 Season is more than a quarter of the way finished, and the playoff picture is beginning to take shape. In the American League, as everyone expected, the AL East division has been a Murderers Row for all five participants. The New York Yankees currently sit atop the division, with the Boston Red Sox, who began the season 2-11, sitting but a half game back. You can bet Yankees vs. Red Sox Tickets are going to yet again be the toughest MLB Ticket to come by this season. The Tampa Bay Rays have suffered a myriad of injuries, but still find themselves in third place in the division, only a game and a half behind the two behemoths in New York and Boston. The Toronto Blue Jays and Baltimore Orioles, long considered afterthoughts in the AL East are each only 3.5 games out of the lead, and have been much improved in 2011.

Over in the AL West division, last year's AL pennant winners, the Texas Rangers, again are out in front of the pack. They've been great at home in The Ballpark at Arlington, but have struggled on the road, and have a record barely above .500. As a result, the Los Angeles Angels and Seattle Mariners have been able to keep pace with the Rangers, while the Oakland Athletics are only three games out.

The biggest surprise of the 2011 MLB Season has been the Cleveland Indians, who possess baseball's best record at 30-17. They currently have a five-game lead in the AL Central division over the Detroit Tigers, with the Kansas City Royals and Chicago White Sox both struggling to keep pace. The Minnesota Twins, long the team to beat in the AL Central division, have been beset by misfortune, and already find themselves 14.5 games out of first place.

AL East June Update
As everyone expected, the AL East division features the three best teams in the entire American League. The New York Yankees have surged to the top of the division over the last month, and currently lead the Boston Red Sox by a slim margin. Boston got off to a terrible start to the 2011 MLB Season, but have picked it up since, and actually had the AL East division lead at one point. The Tampa Bay Rays sit a few games behind the Red Sox and Yankees, but with a dominant pitching staff and surging offense, they'll be right in the mix all year. The Toronto Blue Jays have one of the best hitters in the game in Jose Bautista, and the rest of the offense isn't too shabby either. Unfortunately for Blue Jays fans they currently sit fourth in the tough AL East division. The Baltimore Orioles are in fifth place, although they've been much improved in June.

AL East July Update

As everyone expected at the start of the year, the AL East has become a two-team race between the Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees. Both teams possess a double-digit game cushion over the third place Tampa Bay Rays, and are all but assured a spot in the postseason. The Red Sox made a big splash at the trade deadline, acquiring Erik Bedard to replace the injured Clay Buchholz. The Yankees, on the other hand, did nothing, and many experts question whether their starting rotation is good enough to get them through the playoffs. As for the other teams in the AL East, the Rays are re-tooling for a run within the next couple of years, while the Toronto Blue Jays are also assembling a loaded lineup stocked with talent. While the Yankees and the Red Sox are the current dominators in the AL East, the Rays and Jays could have something to say about that it in the upcoming years. The Baltimore Orioles are still struggling mightily, and currently possess one of the worst records in baseball.
