Columbia Sporting Events

While there are no major professional Sports franchises in the state of South Carolina, there are still plenty of Sporting Events to attend, none more so than in Columbia. The Columbia Inferno, a minor league hockey team who call the Carolina Coliseum their home ice, and the Columbia Blowfish, part of the Coastal Plain League, play at Capital City Stadium. The real Sports attraction in Columbia is the University of South Carolina Gamecocks. The Gamecocks compete in the vaunted Southeastern Conference (SEC), and routinely draw sold-out crowds for its College Basketball and College Football games. The football team plays at Williams-Brice Stadium, one of the biggest football stadiums in the nation, and the Gamecocks basketball team runs the court at Colonial Life Arena. College Baseball is also very popular in Columbia, and South Carolina's baseball team play at beautiful Carolina Stadium.

Greenville Drive, Charleston RiverDogs, Myrtle Beach Pelicans, and Clemson Tigers

The state of South Carolina is a hotbed of minor league baseball. The Greenville Drive, an affiliate of the Boston Red Sox, play at unique Fluor Field at the West End, while Charleston has the Charleston RiverDogs, and Myrtle Beach sports the Myrtle Beach Pelicans. The RiverDogs are an affiliate of the New York Yankees, and call Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park home, and the Pelicans are associated with the Texas Rangers, playing their home ball BB&T Coastal Field. That stadium also hosts the yearly "Baseball at the Beach" college baseball tournament. On the collegiate level, the city of Clemson has the Clemson University Tigers, a member of the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC). The Tigers College Basketball team hoops at Littlejohn Coliseum, and the College Football team plays at Memorial Stadium, better known as Death Valley.

NASCAR

NASCAR racing is also very popular in the state of South Carolina. Darlington Raceway is one of the more popular, and difficult tracks on the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, hosting the Showtime Southern 500. The Raceway also features Nationwide Series and Camping World Truck Series Events.
