Best known for the Kentucky Derby the state has lots of other notable attractions as well. The University of Kentucky is a state favorite as the Wildcats Basketball team is a widely popular, but the Louisville Cardinal's are picking up some steam too. The Kentucky Derby is one of the most looked forward to events of the year, not only in Kentucky, but around the country. People travel from all over every year to attend the Derby including many famous stars and wealthy people. The Derby is held at the historic Churchill Downs in Louisville. The race has become affectionately known as “The Most Exciting Two Minutes in Sports” or “The Run for the Roses”. The historic event is a horse race featuring three-year-old Thoroughbred horses that lasts 1 ¼ mile. The famous track in Louisville, KY has been the home to the oldest sporting event in the United States since 1875. The Kentucky Derby is also the first leg of the coveted Triple Crown.

KFC Yum! Center

The KFC Yum! Center in Louisville, KY is a newer venue which opened in October 2010. It is home of the University of Louisville Cardinals which can sit up to 22,000 people. It also holds many concerts and events with a capacity of 17,500. You can see many events and concerts here like Justin Bieber, Taylor Swift, Rush, Cirque du Soleil, Michael Buble, Lady Gaga, and My Morning Jacket.

University of Kentucky Wildcats and University of Louisville Cardinals

Wildcats - Lexington, Kentucky is home to the University of Kentucky Wildcats. The Wildcats compete in the SEC, and the College Basketball team, which is always a contender for the NCAA Tournament championship, plays their home games a famed Rupp Arena. The College Football team is also widely supported, and routinely draws large crowds to Commonwealth Stadium. Cardinals - The University of Louisville Cardinals play in the Big East Conference, and call the KFC Yum! Center home for College Basketball, and Papa John's Cardinal Stadium home for College Football.
